This Early American colonial scene is an oil painting in a primitive, Americana, or Grandma Moses style. The genre encompasses many of the traditional symbols of a slow paced carefree past. Colonial houses,barns, churches and meeting houses along with covered bridges and water wheel mills were fixtures in early American primitive paintings. The oil painting on canvas measures 20" x 24". The original is available as are Giclee Fine Art Prints on either canvas or high quality archival paper.
Artist Statement

The artist, Bob Askey was born and raised in Salem, Ohio, and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education from Bowling Green University. Following graduation Bob served his military obligation in Germany and then located in New York City to pursue a career in advertising with Young & Rubicam. He chose not to work in the Art Department but elected instead work in Account Management. He worked for Young & Rubicam in New York and Germany for thirteen years.

Later, Bob founded Askey Associates Inc. an advertising agency in Keene, New Hampshire. With mostly Boston area accounts the agency grew from one to eighteen employees and was once the largest advertising agency in New Hampshire.

Upon his retirement Bob's interest in art was reignited. He took Keene State College art courses to re-introduce himself to materials and procedures. He was soon working in most media: oil, watercolor, etching, graphite, and pen and ink. Colonial primitive is only one of the many shapes his work takes.

Bob exhibits with a number of art organizations throughout New England: New Hampshire Art Association, Sharon Arts Center, Southern Vermont Arts,Thorne Sagendorf, among others. His work has won many awards and ribbons for everything from oil paintings to etchings including "Best in Show" at Ogunquit, Maine, in 2006.His work is owned by patrons in more than a dozen states.
