Artist Statement
I love to paint with feeling, make people come alive, and paint scenes that make you remember where you’ve been. To paint a portrait of a lovely grandchild is a pleasure I have long looked forward to, and had to find the skills to do it. Life is full of beautiful scenes. If you have visited a place, it means so much more to you if you have a painting to remind you of what a wonderful time you had. Life is to be savored and enjoyed.... and painted!

The artist has just taken up painting since she retired. Realizing she had to concentrate on the basics, she took various level classes with Bob O’Brien and HowalrdHill in Watercolor. She became interested in pastels and has taken lessons at Sharon Art Center with Robert Collier and Robert Carsten and private lessons with Joy Haddock. She is currently studying watercolor with Jay Doucette of Charlestown. She has also taken workshops with Judy Wagner and Peter Granucci.

She is a member of the Saxtons River Art Guild , Keene Art Association and Sharon Art Center.

Paintings by Nan Durling are on display in private homes from Boston to Seattle, and many places in between, including Portsmouth, the Berkshires, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. She also displays with the Saxtons River Art Guild, the Framery in Bellows Falls, VT, Sharon Art Center and various local banks and places of business, as well as the Colony Mill Marketplace in Keene, with the Keene Art Association.

Nan has participated in the Annual Art in Ashuelot Park for the last five years, and has been part of the Art Walk in Keene for six years, displaying in various windows in Keene.
