Photography in the natural world requires a special kind of seeing which demands time and patience. It is well worth the effort whether or not a camera is in hand, but occasionally, we are granted the additional gift of an image which can capture a piece of that remarkable experience.
For over 20 years, it has been my pleasure to serve as a member, webmaster and photographer for the Conservation Commission in my rural New Hampshire community of Chesterfield. The commission has been the leading force for the preservation of our towns open and wild spaces. We have also worked to make the natural treasures of Chesterfield accessible through the development and maintenance of an extensive trail system. Collected here are a selection of the images primarily from the Chesterfield, captured during years of exploration and trail work. I have also included photographs taken from other parts of New England and the North Eastern United States.
A photographic images can never capture the full the range of color and detail seen by the human eye. The images displayed here are recorded with high resolution digital cameras. They have been carefully edited to better approach the natural experience. Prints are available using archival 8 ink digital printing on acid free archival paper. Only acid free conservation grade mounting and matting materials are used. The photographs are mounted using acid free hinging without the use of potentially damaging dry mounting adhesives. With normal care these images should remain brilliant for a life time, meeting or exceeding the life of standard photographic prints.
