The Art in the Park Raffle

Mike Robie was responsible for designing and conducting the raffle. He did a wonderful job and the raffle earned the Association $614. toward our scholarship fund. Some artists were hesitant to participate in the raffle due to a lack of understanding of how it works. We want to repeat here Mike's clear explanation of how the raffle works so we can get 100% participation next year.

An artist designates one work for the raffle. When people buy raffle tickets they put on the ticket the tent number with the work they wish to win. When the drawing is held only one number is drawn. The artist whose number is drawn gets half the proceeds from ticket sales up to a$700. ceiling. All other paintings designated for the raffle are retained by their artist owners. Those artists gain nothing and lose nothing.

This years raffle winner was a Mrs. Lindholm of Marlow. She bought three raffle tickets designating a digital photo she wanted to win. When her ticket was drawn she got the photo she wanted. Serae Stein the artist whose tent number was on the winning ticket got $614. for her photo. The selling price on her photo was $110. so she received a nice $500. bonus for participating in the raffle.

2006 Art in the Park Report
One more time the rain managed to hold off long enough for people to enjoy the KAA 48th Art in the Park at the lovely Ashuelot Park in Keene, NH.

In spite of the threat of rain all day, we had a wonderful turnout of both artists and spectators. The people of Keene and the surrounding areas, as usual, came to see the great art and support the KAA.

All profits from the exhibit are to go towards the Scholarship Fund, which is awarded to a senior in Keene High School and/or Monadnock High School.

The jurors for Art in the Park were Robert Collier of Rindge and Barbara Danser of Jaffrey, both founders of the Pastel Society of New Hampshire.

This year the award system was changed and instead of having three winners in each category as they did in the past, currently three top prizes and three honorable mentions were awarded, with the amount of the awards increased considerably so that over $1,000 was given out in awards. Also, the artist was not judged on a single painting as in the past, but on all the paintings displayed, which is a better indication of their overall talent.

During the show, artists could also be watched working in various mediums.
